Correct Answer - Option 1 : 45320

Given

An election between two candidates

one of candidate secure 56% votes polled and won an election by 12360 votes

Calculation

Let total number of votes = 100%

Winning candidates secured 56%

⇒ Losing candidate secured  (100 - 56)% = 44% of the votes polled

Now,

⇒ Difference of their votes = 56% - 44%

⇒ Difference of their votes = 12% of the votes polled

Now,

⇒ 12% of votes polled = 12360

⇒ (12/100) × votes polled = 12360

⇒ Total number of votes = (12360 × 100)/12

⇒ Total number of votes = 103000

Now,

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = 44% of 103000

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = (44/100) × 103000

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = 45320

∴ Vote secure by second candidate = 45320

Alternative Method

Let total number of votes = 100

⇒ The number of votes by which the winning candidates has won the election = 56 - 44

⇒ Election won by 12360 votes.

⇒ The total number of votes polled = (100/12) × 12360

⇒  The total number of votes polled = 103000

Now,

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = 44% of 103000

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = (44/100) × 103000

⇒ Vote secure by second candidate = 45320

∴ Vote secure by second candidate = 45320
