Correct Answer - Option 1 : 160

Given:

x + y + z = 6

x2 + y2 + z2 = 16

x3 + y3 + z3 = 196

Formula used:

(x + y + z)2 = x2 + y2 + z2 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx

x3 + y3 + z3 - 3xyz = (x + y + z)(x2 + y2 + z2 - xy - yz - zx)

Calculation:

We have,

x + y + z = 6

x2 + y2 + z2 = 16

x3 + y3 + z3 = 196

(x + y + z)2 = x2 + y2 + z2 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx

⇒ 62 = 16 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx

⇒ 36 = 16 + 2(xy + yz + zx)

⇒ 20 = 2(xy + yz + zx)

⇒ 10 = (xy + yz + zx)

x3 + y3 + z3 - 3xyz = (x + y + z)(x2 + y2 + z2 - xy - yz - zx)

⇒ 196 - 3xyz = 6(16 - 10)

⇒ 196 - 3xyz = 6 × 6

⇒ 196 - 3xyz = 36

⇒ -3xyz =  36 - 196

⇒ -3xyz = -160

∴ The value of 3xyz is 160
