BT Kapas (BT Cotton) ek aisi cotton variety hai jo Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) bacterium ke genes se genetically modified (GM) ki gayi hai. Iska main purpose hai cotton ki paidawar mein improvement lana aur isse insects, khaas kar cotton bollworm jese pests se bachana.
Bt Cotton kaise kaam karta hai: Bt cotton mein Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) naam ke ek bacteria ke genes daale jaate hain, jo ke ek protein produce karte hain jo certain insects ko maarne mein madad karta hai. Jab koi insect Bt cotton ke plants ko khata hai, to wo protein unke digestive system mein jaake unhe maar daalta hai.
