Leadership presupposes existence of followers. There can’t be a leader without followers. The essence of leadership in followership. It is the willingness of people to follow, that makes a person a leader. Leadership can be done only when there is a group of subordinates or followers.
Leadership may be formal and informal. Though the manager holds a formal position in the organisation, but sometimes, he has to initiate informal leadership also.
