Consider the numbers 1, 2 and 3.

Now (1 – 2) – 3 = -1 – 3 = -4

Also 1 – (2 – 3) = 1 – (-1) = 1 + 1 = 2

∴ (1 – 2) – ≠ 1 – (2 – 3)

∴ Associative property is not true for subtraction of integers.
