Correct Answer - Option 4 : 500

Given:

The passing marks of the examination = 40% of the total marks

Concept:

\(GM\% =\ {GM\over TM}× 100\)      (Where, GM = Gain marks, and TM = Total marks)

Calculation:

Let us assume total marks are X

⇒ He got 120 marks and failed by 80 marks it means the sum of 120 and 80 will be equal the 40% of the total marks

⇒ X × (40/100) = 120 + 80

⇒ X × (40/100) = 200

⇒ X = (200 × 100)/40 = 500

⇒ The total marks = 500

∴ The required result will be 500.
