Correct Answer - Option 2 : 1,60,000

Given:

In the assembly election, B got 16,000 more votes than A.

A and B got 35% and 45% votes respectively

Concepts used:

Total votes cast = Votes obtained by A + Votes obtained by B

Calculation:

Let total votes cast be x.

⇒ Votes obtained by A = 0.35x

⇒ Votes obtained by B = 0.45x

In the assembly election, B got 16,000 more votes than A.

⇒ 0.45x – 0.35x = 16,000

⇒ 0.10x = 16,000

⇒ x = 1,60,000

∴ Total number of votes cast are equal to 1,60,000.
