Growing Indiscipline among the Students
The word discipline in the tradilional Indian culture meant one who sat at the feet of his guru to receive his lessons. The lessons aimed at developing his body, mind and spirit. The disciple obeyed the rules and regulations of the guru’s Ashram or the Pathshala.
But the pious relationship between the guru and the disciple has ended. The student of today has little respect for his teachers. He/She openly challenge the behaviour and the lessons of the teacher. Teachers often find themselves in a difficult situation and fail to protect their dignity.
Students often surround the Principal’s office and strike their fists on his table to press their demands. They break the windowpanes and furniture of the classrooms to show their resentment. In some cases, the police has to be called in to control the situation.
Parents, politicians, students’ leaders and teachers will have to sit together with a serious mind and open heart to revive the feelings of discipline in the temples of education.
भारतीय परम्परागत संस्कृति में शिष्य का अर्थ उस व्यक्ति से था जो गुरू के चरणों में अपने पाठ सीखने के लिये बैठता था। शिक्षा का उद्देश्य शिष्यों का शारीरिक, मानसिक और अध्यात्मिक विकास होता था। शिष्य गुरू के आश्रम या पाठशाला के नियमों का पालन करता था।।
परन्तु गुरू-शिष्य के बीच का वह पवित्र सम्बन्ध अब समाप्त हो गया है। आज के छात्र के मन में शिक्षक के प्रति कोई सम्मान नहीं रहा है। वह खुलकर शिक्षक के व्यवहार और शिक्षा को चुनौती देता है। शिक्षक प्रायः अपने आप को विकट परिस्थिति में पाता है और अपनी प्रतिष्ठा की भी रक्षा नहीं कर सकता।
छात्रगण प्रायः प्रधानाचार्य के दफ्तर का घेराव करते हैं और उनकी मेज पर मुक्के मार-मार कर अपनी मांगों का दबाव डालते हैं। वे कक्षों का फर्नीचर तथा खिड़कियों के शीशे तोड़ डालते हैं अपना रोष प्रकट करने के लिए। कुछ मामलों में तो परिस्थितियों पर नियंत्रण करने के लिये पुलिस को बुलाना पड़ता है।
शिक्षा के मन्दिरों में अनुशासन पुनर्जीवित करने के लिये माता-पिता, विद्यार्थी-नेताओं और शिक्षकों को गम्भीर मानसिकता और खुले दिल से साथ-साथ बैठना होगा।
